Intro to Land Navigation (Mason, OH)
The art of reading a map is a skill many people do not have. Understanding how to read grid lines, topographic features, shooting waypoints, keeping pace count, and converting compass displays can be daunting to try and understand, but with a little guidance and practice it suddenly starts to become clear. If you ever find yourself out in the middle of no-where, your cell phone might not work, GPS signals may be lost, and your left with a simple map. Being able to read topographic features of your surroundings, along with understanding how to maintain a track path will get you back to safety. This course will cover the classroom portion, which will prepare you to participate in the field based courses. All material will be provided for this course. We will discuss the best types of compasses, pace counters, etc.
