Chemical Operator Boot Camp

Chemical Operator Boot Camp
Chemical Operator Skills Program                                                                     Background: Eight separate chemical firms came together to share a crucial shared business need: a significant lack of new chemical operators with basic industry skills and knowledge. In collaboration with Cincinnati State's Workforce Development Center and the North American Process Technology Alliance (NAPTA), this newly formed Technical Advisory Committee of industry and educational experts identified three goals:    Create a short-term training program for newly-hired operators to minimize required on-the-job-training time, while earning college credit towards an Academic Certificate Create a one-year Academic Certificate to teach college students the basic skills to enter the industry prepared to become a chemical operator, stackable to proceed to the Associate Degree Create a two-year Associate Degree program to provide a pathway for students to enter into the industry as a chemical operator, providing a pipeline of potential new employees   The first result of the team's work is the creation of the Chemical Operator's Skills Boot Camp, a two-week training program for new employees. The training topics were selected by the industry representatives, and focus on the skills needed to enable new employees to provide immediate contributions to the production operations, without taking operators off-line to lead on-the-job training.       Course Topics:   -     Introduction to Chemical Processing -     Operator Responsibilities -     Basic Math -     Applied Physics -     Applied Chemistry -     Safety, Health, Environmental & Security   -         Quality Systems -         Communication  & Teams -         Process Drawings -         Vessels, Piping -         Valves, Fittings -         Instrumentation -         Pumps & Compressors -         Heat Exchangers
