Melbourne Youth Orchestra: Picture Perfect

Melbourne Youth Orchestra: Picture Perfect
Come and hear Melbourne Youth Orchestra perform three wonderful pieces of music, joined by internationally renowned clarinettist Francesco Celata. Titled Picture Perfect, the concert will feature Melbourne Youth Orchestra (MYO) performing much-loved classics: Sibelius' Finlandia, Mozart's Clarinet Concerto, and Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition.

For the Mozart concerto, MYO will be joined by Francesco Celata, Acting Principal Clarinet of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. A former member of MYO, Francesco has gone on to become an internationally recognised clarinettist and has played with the world's great orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra, London.

"The Mozart Clarinet Concerto was the inspiration for me to play the clarinet. It is a piece one cannot perfect and always remains an inspiration and a challenge," says Celata.

"MYO opened the door to my orchestral career. It gave me the opportunity to learn great repertoire, develop the craft of orchestral playing and introduced me to friends and colleagues I have to this day. I will always remember these years with great affection and as a wonderful learning experience, seminal to my life as an orchestral musician."

Mozart's Clarinet Concerto was voted favourite classical piece of all time by ABC Classic FM listeners, and audiences are guaranteed to be captivated by the entire program.

The haunting beauty of Sibelius' Finlandia expresses the stark nature of the Finnish landscape, while one of classical music's most-loved and accessible works, Mussorgsky's 'Pictures at an Exhibition', uses music to take the listener an evocative and imaginary tour of an art exhibition.

Melbourne Youth Orchestra is recognised as Victoria's finest youth orchestra, with members ranging from 14–25yo, and as a launching pad for many professional musical careers.
