How to Arrange Computer Armoires

After buying computer armoires, it is time to fill them up with equipment and supplies. One way to proceed is to start packing in the items until no more can fit inside. However, if you do the project that way, you might not get the most important things in the most convenient places. It helps to have a plan.

1. Fit in the basic electronics.

The first things to go into your armoire should be the computer tower and the computer monitor. There is probably only one good place for the monitor. Look carefully through the cabinet for options of where to put the tower. In some cases, the only space available is right beside the monitor. If there is a space large enough below the work surface that is shaped correctly for the tower, consider putting it there.

2. Add the peripherals.

Look for a shelf your printer will fit on. If you have a choice of two different shelves for your printer, consider how you will fill the printer. Choose a position where it is easiest to load with paper and ink cartridges. Select spots for all your peripherals. Give priority locations of convenience to the equipment you use most often. Take note of where you will plug in your keyboard, but do not set it and your mouse up until last.

3. Connect the cords.

Most computer armoires are designed with openings where the cords can be run through to the outside to plug into the power outlet. It can be a difficult task to get all the cords routed into the openings. If any of the equipment has detachable cords, there is an easier way to route them.
Disconnect the cord and route the cord through the armoire. After all the detachable cords have been threaded through, attach them on the back side to a power strip Then, place all the items that do not have detachable cords and run those cords through to attach to the strip as well. If you have chosen a power strip with a long enough cord, you can plug it in even before you slide the furniture into place. After the power strip is plugged in on the off position, you can hook up all your equipment.

4. Add the most important supplies.

Select the office supplies that you will need the most often and look for drawers or cubbies you can put them into. Try to give each major type of supplies its own space and keep all of that type of item in that place. For example, you might choose a special area for paper products. If so, you might put printer paper in one drawer and manila envelopes, folders and note pads in an adjacent drawer.

5. Fill in the extra spaces with more supplies.

There are some supplies that are not the most essential parts of your work, but would be nice to have in your computer area. These might include reference books, grooming supplies and knick knacks. If you have room for any such items that you would like to have, fit them in as space allows. Whatever you do, do not overload your cabinet. Computer armoires have the unique ability to close up and become a beautiful piece of furniture, so do not make that transformation impossible by overstuffing them.
