Cloud computing which is completely based on the internet. This can also be referred as the next evolution of the Internet. It uses the Internet that provides the way to deliver the services whenever and wherever the user of the cloud needs.
It is a combination of hardware, network, software, services and interfaces which help in delivering computing as a service. It includes three users - end users, management user and cloud service provider.
The end user is the one who uses the services provided by the cloud service provider. The business management user is the one who takes the responsibility of data and services provided by the cloud. The cloud service provider is the one who takes care for the maintenance of the IT assets of the cloud.
Some of salient features:
To access and manage the commercial software centralizing the activities of management of software in Web Environment Developing the applications that are capable of managing several clients
There are different types of models:
These are also called as cloud deployment models. These cloud types are those who use. It is not by technology, cost or location.
1.Public Computing:
It can be used by the public - by anyone and everyone.
It is open for companies and individual persons.
It is provided as a service over the internet and the customer infrastructure or applications are hosted by the cloud service provider. The customer has no visibility & control over where the cloud services are being hosted. The providers offer free as well as paid models.
e.g: Dropbox
Benefits:
Simplicity & efficiency: They are offered as a service, usually over the internet connection. In this an off- site third party provider hosts and manages the system. No maintenance: The public Cloud is hosted off site, internal IT employees are not responsible for maintaining the system Reduced Time: with this as everything is virtualized, reconfiguring the cloud can take minutes. Low Cost: Organizations can customize the public cloud service with specific options such as amount of users so that they only pay for what they need.
2.Community computing:
This type of model is made exclusive use by a group of users.
e.g.: healthcare, financial, law, education, energy etc.
3.Private Computing : It is also termed as internal cloud or corporate cloud is a marketing term for a proprietary computing architecture that provides hosted services to limited number of people behind a firewall.
Benefits :
Greater control:In Private computing it has more control over their data. More security: the private cloud services are dedicated to single organization, the hardware, data storage and network can be designed to assure high level of security that cannot be accessed by other clients in same data center. Higher Performance: this type of Cloud Computing model is deployed inside the firewall on an organization intranet which means that transfer rates are dramatically increased versus using the internet.
4.Hybrid Computing: It is a combination of Public & Private. It is type of cloud computing in which an enterprise provides and manages some resources in house and has others provided externally. The hybrid cloud allows a business to take advantage of the scalability & cost effectiveness.
