UCLA's Smart & Sustainable Cities Conference
On May 19, leading academics and professionals from California, the United States and Israel will gather at UCLA's Smart and Sustainable Cities Conference to discuss the most important challenge of the 21st Century: achieving sustainability.
The conference will feature eight UCLA faculty members and six academics from Israel, which faces many of the same challenges as California. These experts and others will cover the most critical areas for ensuring urban centers use their limited resources as efficiently as possible. Panel topics will include:
• Transportation
• Water
• Energy
• The Built Environment
• The Digital City and Sharing Economy
A concluding panel - Creating the "Sustainable City": Innovation, Politics and Social Change - will take an integrated approach to defining what makes a "sustainable city," discuss the context necessary for innovative technologies and policies to take hold, and consider the broad social and economic issues involved.
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti will deliver the Conference's keynote address on his vision for a sustainable Los Angeles and how to make that vision a reality.
