Yes, you can play games in Linux, and certain games are now being released for Linux, usually several years after they appeared on Windows, but it's not for the faint hearted.

While we might complain about Windows foibles until the cows come home, really there's nothing to complain about compared to Linux. If you can remember the bad old days when you had to configure multiple config.sys and autoexec.bat files, just to get different games working, and you actually enjoyed it, then you are probably a Linux user. For the rest of us though, the only logical choice is Windows.

Which of course begs the question, which version? Only Windows Vista offers the visual delights of DirectX 10, but its brutal hardware requirements means that you end up spending more money than you would for the equivalent performance from a Windows XP rig.

There's also the issue of hardware drivers. Even a year after release, there are still many drivers missing, or not working correctly in Vista. There's also the issue of cost. Windows XP is a lot cheaper than Vista, although it's not going to be available for much longer. Let's not forget that in Crysis, many of the so-called DirectX 10 features have been unlocked in Windows XP.

For now, we'd say, unless you absolutely have to have that Aero interface, Windows XP is still first choice, while it's available.

BISA is a non-profit research institute dedicated to the improvement of food security and reduction of hunger in South Asia. It is a collaborative effort between the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), The Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR), and the Government of India. BISA's objective is to harness the latest technology in agriculture to improve farming productivity and sustainably meet the demands of the future. More than just a bricks-and-mortar institute, BISA is a commitment to the people of India. It is co-located in three Indian states—Punjab, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh—each of which contains varied agro-ecological zones, representing many of the environments of South Asia.

Bihar has the potential to become an important wheat and maize growing state. The Ganges River flows through the middle of the state, from west to east, and provides it with rich water sources; however, less than a third of the wheat grown in the Middle Gangetic Plains zone is irrigated. Bihar currently produces 6% of the wheat grown in India and contains 8% of the total land area dedicated to wheat production, with an average yield of 1.5 tons per hectare for rainfed and 2.9 for irrigated conditions. The yield gap between farmers' fields and demonstration plots is currently 1.2 tons per hectare.

Areas of future development for BISA Pusa include the development of climate-resilient cultivars, innovative maize genotypes, diverse wheat cultivars, disease resistance, farmer information technologies, and new irrigation technologies. Initial trials have indicated that the implementation of zero tillage on 1.5 million hectares has the potential to increase soil moisture and enhance wheat production by 0.45 million tons. The promotion of quality protein maize to address malnutrition rates as well as long-term conservation agricultural trials is also a priority for the site.

New and existing customers using Sprint's service will now pay full price up front for phones or lease the device, paying it month-by-month over the course of two years, which is the trick that the monthly plans tend to pull to make the phone more affordable, while still having some sort of long-term commitment even without the contract.

Sprint is the last of the major four carriers to start making major moves in this direction. T-Mobile first stopped selling contract plans two years ago, and Verizon joined right now; AT&T still sells contract phone plans, but they're harder to get than they used to be -- you have to buy them through AT&T itself.

Removing the two-year restriction does provide for additional flexibility when upgrading smartphone. Anyone who wants the latest and greatest will be able to make the switch without the hassle, because they are not stuck with a plan that makes them miss a generation of new devices. But there is a downside, you will need to pay full retail price for the new device.
So while the sticker shock of paying the full price for a smartphone upfront might catch consumers off guard--and might lead to a temporary sales slump for manufacturers like Apple, Samsung or LG --it's unlikely to make that much of a difference to a household's bottom line. A new multimedia exhibit with photographs, costumes, artifacts, and music will explore the fascinating and tumultuous decade of the 1960s. Demolish or Preserve: The 1960s at the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion, curated by Kathleen Motes Bennewitz will open on May 4, 2016 and run through Nov. 20, 2016. Opening Reception: May 12, 2016, 5:30-7:30 p.m. - for non-members for members.

It is impossible to remember the 1960s without thinking of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landing on the moon, the Beatles arriving in the United States, the Civil Rights Movement, the Vietnam War and—most hauntingly—the assassinations of John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King. Against this backdrop of turbulent cultural change and social unrest, was the nation's modern urban planning, which included the demolition of historic neighborhoods and irreplaceable buildings.

This exhibition will explore the fascinating and ground-breaking decade of the 1960s and the Mansion's connections to the revolutionary preservation battles and new landmark statutes of the era. It will also honor the museum's 50th Anniversary as it celebrates the bands of locals, led by the Junior League of Stamford-Norwalk, Inc. and the Common Interest Group, who fought to save the Mansion and secure its status as a National Historic Landmark in 1971.

With Europe's ongoing legacy of artistic and historic preservation and reuse as a model, in the 1960s concerned citizens brought national attention to the need for saving from demolition historically and architecturally significant structures in America. Jackie Kennedy, using her stature and influence, restored the White House's historic interiors; and just as the grand mansions of Fifth Avenue and Newport were slated for demolition, here in Norwalk LeGrand Lockwood's Civil War era palatial residence was faced with a similar fate. Recognizing that the demolition of this structure would be a great loss to the city, state, and nation, concerned citizens galvanized to save the mansion in one the most important and hard fought preservation battles in Connecticut's history.

The Museum's 2016 cultural and educational programs are made possible in part by generous funding from LMMM's Founding Patrons: The Estate of Mrs. Cynthia Clark Brown, and the Museum's Distinguished Benefactors: Klaffs, The Xerox Foundation, and The Maurice Goodman Foundation.
